The Divorce Process for Parents

- Parties have to attend a Children First program
- Parties then submit custody or visitation disputes to mediation before a hearing
- A court issues a pretrial scheduling order
- Split hearings take place: The first hearing involves the grounds for divorce; the second hearing involves any remaining issues (child support, child custody, visitation, property distribution and debt allocation)
Property Division
Property distribution can be a major source of contention in a divorce. The more property involved, the more complicated property division can become.
